Mangera Yvars Architects [MYAA] is an international award winning architectural design studio set up in 2001. We based in London and Barcelona
Our view of architecture is drawn from our overwhelming interest in urbanity. By this we mean what is the impact of architecture beyond the immediate and specific question of ‘the building’.
Our approach is through the idea of ‘architecture as landscape’ from which we address the key issues of our day -issues such as the changing way we live and work, our basic requirements for shelter, our desire for better urban space and our absolute need for sustainable cities.
Our idea of landscape refers as much to terrain and topography as it does to demographic, social and cultural landscape, or urban phenomenon such as congestion and flow.
Our theoretical position is continuously evolving through commissions and on-going research. The work of our practice ranges from Masterplanning, to the design of Towers, Universities and Educational Facilities, Community and Cultural Buildings, Shopping Centres, Hotels and Infrastructure projects.
The practice is currently working on the design of The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies University at Education City Doha for The Qatar Foundation, Eco-Hotels in the Sahara, a Cultural Centre in North London, a sports complex for Saudi Aramco in King Abdullah Sports City, and Phase 3 Dohaland. We are also designing a new superstore shopping centre for Tesco UK.
We have considerable international experience in the design of low energy and sustainable buildings to LEED and BREEAM and including work for MASDAR City, Abu Dhabi, the World’s first Zero Carbon City.
The practice has exhibited widely including at the Victoria and Albert Museum London and The National Museum of Scotland and we are featured in numerous publications worldwide.
We have presented at various international symposiums including The Symposium for Tall Buildings, Madrid 2008, The Symposium for Culture at Al Hambra, Spain, 2009 and at The Enaddi symposium for Architecture in Latin America, Mexico City 2009.
Our academic work includes teaching at Cambridge University, University College London, and at the Institute for Advanced Architecture, Catalonia. More recently, we have worked as a Board Member of Architecture and Design Scotland, as part of the Sustainability Panel and for Design Review of projects of National Significance.
