Republic of Georgia
The Orthodox Church is located in a remote hamlet in the Republic of Georgia.
We have developed our scheme based on our understanding of Georgian theological architecture which is related to God, Nature and Man.
By combining these three elements, we have developed a formal response which captures the essence and power of worship.
The church is made of bricks and has an undulating roof which represents the Georgian landscape.
We have developed two distinct options for the roof, one which slices the roof to bring in light and the over left as a single sealed surface.
The exterior wall of the church could also be decorated using a brick pattern based on traditional Georgian vernacular patterns.
