South African Academy Masterplan
South Africa

The project is an intricate masterplan defined by a rich variety of buildings and landscape which collectively provide an inspirational setting for learning, living and working.
The scheme provides nearly 98,000 m2 of development for a new academy in Southern Africa. The masterplan consists of a lower, middle and high school facilities with clustered dormitory accommodation.
In order to minimise costs, the buildings are generally made of earth or locally soured brick. The main school building is centrally placed relative to the school entrance.
The buildings are dominated by pitched roof profiles that help collect and recycle rainwater.
