Museum of Transport
Doha, Qatar
The Ministry of Transport Museum is a Transport Education Centre that takes its form from the idea of human motion and movement under what appears to be a Qatari tent. The scheme is inspired by the seamless interconnectivity of different modes of transport and how this interconnectivity can be explored in a museum context that is uplifting, entertaining and inspiring. At first glance, the building enclosure is suggestive of the tent like forms prevalent in Qatari culture but the idea has been developed in an abstract way where the building envelope provides an enclosure that is protective and insulated and allows for the flexible deployment of artefacts and exhibits.
The scheme accommodates land, sea and air galleries and these are expressed by separate volumes which merge at the main entrance. Gardens around the galleries are an extension of the museum interior and these are laid out in a thematic way.
