The Fine Arts Academy, located on the western edge of the city centre, is close to a spectacular range of mountains to the North. The scheme is based on the metaphor of Fujairah’s natural landscape, carving out spaces amongst rock-like formations which offer deep shadow and stark light. The scheme is organized along on an East- West axis aligned to the E89 highway and the northern edge of the site accommodates the main car park area which leads to the main entrance and the public faculties including the public lobby, café, retail area and galleries.
The Eastern edge of the site is connected to The City Centre Mall by a new park that provides a green pedestrian route and strong and dynamic public realm. The eastern edge of the site provides access both the Fine Arts Academy as well as the public program of galleries, café and retail space. The scheme is organized in zoned clusters to allow the various parts of the academy to operate separately or together depending on requirements. It is our aim to produce a highly sustainable scheme using passive and active techniques. These will include high thermal mass, smart orientation and self-shading, capturing the prevailing wind for passive cooling, micro climatic courtyards as well as grey water recycling and the adoption of renewables from PV cells.
